Overview

East Canyon and the surrounding area are rich in pioneer history. The Donner Party, also called the Donner-Reed group, was a group of farmers from Iowa and Illinois going west to find fertile land for their crops. On their way to California, they passed through East Canyon in 1846, the first wagon train to pass through this way. Many obstacles, including high brush and rocky obstacles, slowed them down a great deal. Not realizing the harsh conditions they would encounter while on their trek, only 47 of the original 87 reached their destination.

Additional Information

Due to space limitations, only two vehicles are allowed per campsite or overnight facility. A second vehicle is subject to the additional vehicle fee. The additional vehicle fee will be collected at the park.

East Canyon State Park operates a general store with basic camping, fishing, and day-use supplies. We offer paddleboard, kayak, and canoe rentals. You can also rent personal watercraft and motorboats from the general store as well. Please call 801-829-6866 for more information.

Pets are not allowed in yurts, cabins, wagons, or glamping RV.
